Force Accountability

Force-badgeThe Police Reform and Social Responsibility Bill 2011 states the following:

"The Police & Crime Commissioner for a police area must hold the relevant Chief Constable to account for the exercise of: (a) the functions of the Chief Constable, and (b) the functions of persons under the direction and control of the Chief Constable."

In order to show transparency, discussions with the Chief Constable at weekly meetings and queries posed in other areas (e.g.crime performance) together with the responses received will be posted below.

Discussions and actions agreed at accountability meetings of the PCC with the Chief Constable. (If a meeting is not listed, it is either due to annual leave commitments or operational availability).

Crime Performance Accountability

Prior to December 2016, any questions posed by the PCC (with the Chief Constable's responses) regarding Crime Performance during particular periods were published online. These questions are now included in the recently restructured Thematic Scrutiny Meetings.


Strategic Performance Exception Reports

The PCC attends monthly review meetings of operational performance via the Strategic Performance Group (SPG). Reports are normally published around six weeks after the month's end. From September 2013, the Commissioner will publish unrestricted versions of strategic performance exception reports which are presented at these meetings.  From March 2015, these reports will be published quarterly in line with quarterly SPG meetings.
