Funding for South Tees Youth
South Tees Youth Offending Service (YOS) works across both Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland with young people 10-17 years of age who have been, or at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system.
The YOS undertake offence based work, community reparation and prevention interventions in order to divert young people from offending/re-offending. They have an ongoing programme of community reparation projects that allows the young people to pay back for their offending. An example of this is the recent beach clean up that the young people have participated in. The evidence so far indicates that the young people who have taken part in the projects have reduced their re-offending and made positive steps in other areas such as school attendance and positive self esteem.
In order to continue this work South Tees YOS have requested funding for gardening equipment and personal protective equipment for future reparation projects and a camera to take 'before and after' images of the projects.
This initiative supports the PCC's objectives of Tackling Re-offending and Working Together to Make Cleveland Safer.
