Cleveland Anti-Slavery Network aims to bring together relevant organisations to address issues associated with Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery.
Part of its role is to make sure that Modern Slavery and exploitation stay high on organisations’ agendas.
The network is independently chaired. Cleveland OPCC have been involved in the network since the beginning.
What does the network do?
The network consists of two elements:
The Victim Care Pathway
- Reviews current cases to identify best practice and areas for improvement.
- Tracks trends in victims referred for support through the National Referral Mechanism
- Ensures the pathway is used when victims present to services as well as making sure it is maintained and up to date.
Network meetings
- Facilitate the development of knowledge, information, data and skills across agencies. It also enables agencies to share good practice.
- Encourage a victim-focussed approach and good practice in victim care.
- Develop strategic partnerships and collaborations with other regional, national and international organisations to tackle Modern Slavery. Links include those with other networks, partnerships and learning establishments.
- Encourage the development and identification of best practice, trends and patterns.
- Identify gaps in current provision
- Remain up to date with current developments and initiatives locally, regionally and nationally.
Key aims
The network aims to:
- Increase awareness among partners of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery. Partners include local authorities, public health and NHS bodies
- Establish intelligence of what’s happening locally
- Improve understanding of the scale of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery locally.
- Increase understanding with regard the National Referral Mechanism (NRM)
- Increase reporting by partner agencies
- Improve victim support for those affected by Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery.
Who is involved in the Network?
In addition to the Independent Chair, the network contains representatives from Cleveland OPCC, Cleveland Police, Adult Safeguarding and Children’s Safeguarding leads within local authorities, housing associations and victim support organisations
