No More Knives

As the moving and powerful Knife Angel sculpture departs after another memorable visit to Cleveland, it’s time to reflect on what it means for policing and the wider community…The visit to Kirkleatham Museum, Redcar, ended with an emotional vigil by all of those touched by the scourge of violence and knife crime – again highlighting the devastation violence causes in our communities.

 

But the Angel’s latest visit has led me to wonder “How many more lives must be lost to the knives?”

75 exploited young people protected over 9 months

­

A Barnardo's has been able to help and protect 75 young people by placing a support worker within the Cleveland Police's Complex Exploitation Team. The scheme has proved so successful it has been given external funding to continue for another year.

Team working with disengaged young people in Hemlington

­

Linx youth project has been delivering support to disadvantaged and disengaged young people from their base in Hemlington since 1993. Steve visited the team to see how they engage with the most hard-to-reach young people.

The Shack has received £5,000 as part of ASB Fund

­

The funding has not only helped keep young people in Ragworth busy during the summer holidays but it is also helping the wider community by paying for a range of equipment including sports and games kits, gardening, decorating and cleaning equipment.

Bridging the Gap funding boost announced

­

The fund has been awarded to six local groups to help enhance awareness, knowledge and support for domestic abuse for Cleveland's ethnically diverse communities. Steve visited Women Today earlier this month who has been awarded £4,042.

Youth Triage to receive 3 years funding

­

Youth Triage aims to reduce the number of first-time entrants into the criminal justice system, cut re-offending rates and tackle crime and community safety issues at a local level.
