Residents are being encouraged to have their say on how safe they feel using public transport across Cleveland.
Results from the Transport Safety survey will provide a unique insight into how and why people travel across the area’s four Boroughs. It will also highlight any positive and negative experiences of travelling by bus, train or taxi.
Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland Matt Storey wants to hear from the public.
He wants to understand how they use transport during the day and night, how safe they feel on different forms of transport and what they would like to see implemented to make them feel safer when using the travel services.
The survey has been launched by the Cleveland Unit for the Reduction in Violence Unit (CURV) to find out how Cleveland transport options work for people going out, whether for work or leisure.
It will form part of a research project for CURV’s Night-Time Economy (NTE) Action Plan which works to reduce crime related incidents and improve the feeling of safety for those working and visiting Cleveland.
CURV is one of 20 violence reduction units across the UK committed to reducing – and ultimately preventing – serious violence.
It focuses on developing interventions to prevent violent crime before it occurs, analysing data on the root causes of violence and bringing agencies together in multi-agency partnerships.
Face-to-Face
The CURV team will also attend transport locations across Cleveland to consult with passengers face-to-face.
Matt said: “The aim of the survey is to understand how people use public transport across Cleveland and to find out whether they have experienced or witnessed anything of concern.
“We also want to know the public’s perception of safety when out in our towns and whether they have ever changed their behaviours when using public transport.
“And as always, we are looking for any suggestions on how people think safety on public transport can be improved.”
The survey opens on Monday, February 17th and will close at midnight on Monday, March 31st, 2025.
