Licensees, pub managers, security and bar staff are invited to a series of events to have a say in making their environment safer.
Cleveland Violence Reduction Partnership – or CURV – has organised four events to engage with people working in night-time economy hotspots.
The interactive workshops will focus on making sure they have a say on how both their individual premises – and wider night-time economy centres – can be made safer.
The workshops are aimed at businesses in Stockton, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Hartlepool town centres as well as the nightlife hubs of Norton and Yarm.
They will give participants the chance to discuss what works and what doesn’t work. Participants can also talk about what they would like to see in order to improve safety. It’s a chance for people in the industry to directly impact decision making about it.

Workshops take place at:
- Acklam Green Centre, Middlesbrough, on Wednesday 29 November 2023 at 10am (for Middlesbrough businesses)
- Redcar Racecourse on Thursday 30 November 2023 at 10am (for Redcar and Cleveland businesses)
- River Tees Water Sports Centre, Stockton, on Monday 4 December 2023 at 10am (for businesses in Stockton, Norton and Yarm.)
- Centre for Excellence in Creative Arts, Hartlepool, on Tuesday 5 December 2023 at 10am (for Hartlepool business)
John Holden MBE, Head of CURV, said: “Along with its partners, CURV invested a considerable amount of its funding last year into helping make the region’s night-time economy safer for all. We now want to build on that investment.
“CURV has prioritised a range of activities and initiatives, including training for staff, building partnership networks, and improving the management of vulnerable people in venues throughout Cleveland. In addition, CURV is working with partners to raise the profile of campaigns like Ask Angela.
“It’s important, however, that the employers and staff – who are the beating heart of the night time economy – have an opportunity to be heard on how safety in their industry can be improved – and how we can support them.”
CURV is committed to reducing levels of violent crime across the area.
