A further £100 million Government investment in neighbourhood policing has been welcomed by PCC Matt Storey.
It comes in addition to £100 million announced in December for England and Wales to put 13,000 more police officers on the streets by 2029.
Matt said: “The doubled increase in funding for neighbourhood policing demonstrates that the Government understands the value the public places on having more visible local policing in their area and it should be applauded.
“Improving neighbourhood policing across Cleveland was my biggest pledge to the public, who overwhelmingly told me during my recent Police and Crime Plan consultation that they wanted to see more police officers on the streets.
“Having dedicated officers on the ground, in their communities, as the eyes and ears of the public with the ability to gather intelligence, is invaluable.
“Now, this pledge is at the very heart of my Police and Crime Plan. I believe this investment will help give the Chief Constable increased flexibility to deploy police officers and staff in a way that best meets the needs of the force and the communities it serves.
“While we calculate what the increase in officer numbers means for Cleveland, I believe it is the crucial stepping stone we so greatly need to make the communities of Cleveland safer, stronger and more confident.”
