At an OPCC event in November 2024, it was agreed that the collective response to supporting victims-survivors of sexual harm needed to be improved.
All partners were involved in work around sexual violence/abuse and exploitation across Cleveland,
During a round table discussion, partners identified the lack of coordinated focus on work addressing sexual harms specifically. They highlighted the need for a network to join up discussions, activities and future planning. This would be with regard to all age sexual violence, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.
In December 2024, the PCC submitted a funding application to NHS England (NHSE.) This was to support funding for the development, facilitation and coordination of activities which would support improvements across all partners responding to sexual harms and increase victim experience and confidence.
On 26 February 2025, NHSE said the PCC would be awarded 12-months funding to the value of £62,900.04. This would cover 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026.
The OPCC has agreed to grant fund Middlesbrough Voluntary Development Agency (MVDA) £59,904.80 so it can mplement these requirements on behalf of the PCC.
This decision was made due to the need to expedite recruitment arrangements and for the role to be independent –
The PCC will retain a management charge of £2,995.24 to support OPCC activities related to the management of the arrangement.
This decision was discussed with the Police and Crime Commissioner on 11 March 2025 with full support.
