Justice First is committed to fostering a society that is inclusive, welcoming, and upholds the dignity of individuals seeking refuge in the UK. Based in the Tees Valley, they specifically support asylum seekers navigating the application process, offering a crucial lifeline to those in need.
Their work is focused on three core areas:
- developing solutions
- building resilience
- promoting understanding
Justice First plans to host a one-day multicultural football tournament on Saturday June 20th 2026, with the goals of promoting community unity, reducing fear of crime and authorities, and enhancing social integration among diverse social and cultural groups in Teesside.
This event aims to support asylum seekers, refugees, and ethnic minority communities who may be particularly vulnerable to hate crimes by providing a positive and welcoming space for engagement with law enforcement and the wider community. By creating a safe and non-threatening environment, the event helps reduce fear, build trust, and encourage open communication – aligning to the Police and Crime Plan priorities:
- Ensuring the right support for victims and vulnerable people.
- Building trust and confidence in policing and the criminal justice system.
The event is designed to benefit approximately 250 football players, their families and friends, participating organisations, and the wider community, particularly through the positive media attention it will generate. It will also showcase the athletic talents within diverse communities, offering a platform for showcasing unity through sport.
The project seeks to create a safer space for both service users and the general public, while empowering refugees to feel more confident in reporting crimes and seeking support when needed.
This is an annual event that only Justice First provide and arrange locally. Funding will be provided from the Police Property Act Fund.
