Middlesbrough Mela has applied for funding to support the promotion and delivery of an extended programme to celebrate 25 year of this event.
This event on 6-7 June 2015 attracts over 10,000 people and brings together local community groups from diverse backgrounds and postcodes.
The weekend’s activities include workshops, food and entertainment. Visitors will take part in stilt walking workshops lead by a professional company.
A procession through town is expected to attract a crowd of over 4,000. It will finish at the Mela festival site, where 10,000 people will be gathered.
It is a key priority to promote community cohesion and a sense of belonging. The PCC will host a stall at the event to raise the profile of initiatives such as hate crime reporting, employment opportunities or opportunities on Independent Advisory Groups.
