Middlesbrough Weightlifting Club was established in 2016 and has been recognised as a Centre for Youth Development in the North East by British Weightlifting.
The Club is delivering a targeted project for young people in the areas of Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland.
The project will run for 48 weeks and groups will be capped at 15 individuals at a time. Mindfulness training will be integrated into weightlifting, which will be aimed at improving views on life and respect for self and others.
In order for the project to commence, the club has requested funding for £2,355 to purchase lightweight equipment suitable for the young people, who will be attending.
An additional request of £2,559 was made in order for the club to purchase specialist equipment to hold British weightlifting accredited team competitions.
A decision was made to fund £2,355 only for the lightweight equipment in order to start the project.
This project supports the PCC’s priorities of Working Together to Make Cleveland Safer and Securing the Future of Our Communities.
