Redcar Development Trust (RDT) is a small local charity which hosts Redcar Amateur Boxing Club (RABC).
As well as offering opportunities for individuals to improve boxing skills, the Club (with the support of England Boxing, Tees Valley County Sports Partnership, Redcar & Cleveland Council) also reaches out to disadvantaged and excluded young people
It promotes community pride and respect. The club also offers access via RDT to volunteering, training and employment opportunities.
The PCC provided funding for ‘The Right Hook’ project in 2016/17 where the RABC delivered over 500 hours of coaching support using mobile boxing rings in deprived areas across Redcar & Cleveland. After its success the Trust have requested funding to continue with a mobile boxing ring at Grangetown. The sessions will run twice a week over a 20 week period and the funding will also contribute to the cost of the transport for the sessions. The project aims to divert young people from crime and antisocial behaviour.
RDT have also secured £2,000 from Tees Valley Sport.
This initiative supports the PCC’s priority of Securing the Future of Our Communities.
