The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has agreed to spend £5,000 to tackle metal theft.
The money will be used to support police overtime as well as covert and overt staff deployments.
Funding has been provided by the British Transport Police’s Fusion Unit via Durham Constabulary.
The unit has committed approximately £22,000 to tackle metal theft within Cleveland.
To date, £8,000 has been used for police overtime to tackle metal theft.
A separate request for technical equipment is expected at a later date.
