Freedom of Information Request
How much Cleveland police made from their speed cameras from April 2022- April 2024?.
How much do Cleveland get from people who are fined in the court’s, what % does the station get if any? Also I’d like to see all funding information for Cleveland police from April 2022 to April 2024 including all money given from council tax. I would be great to get a simple break down of all finding you receive.
Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner Response
To clarify, income is not received directly from individuals who are caught exceeding the legal speed limit by mobile camera units.
Income is received if an individual chooses to undertake a speed awareness training course, as part of the fee the individual pays to go on the course is paid to Cleveland Police for administration costs.
This has generated the below income over the timeframe you requested:
- 2022/23 – £289,490
- 2023/24 – £332,840*
*Please note – this figure may not be final, as transactions for the 2023/24 financial year are still being processed.

Supplementary information provided
All financial information relating to Cleveland Police for the next financial year has been approved and published online.
I can draw your attention specifically to the Force’s Long-Term Financial Plan, particularly page 20 – please note, these figures are also presented by our financial team in £’000s so you will need to add three 0s for the full figure.
In terms of expenditure, we publish every expenditure over £500 on a monthly basis – you can access these spreadsheets on our website.
To clarify, neither Cleveland Police nor the Police and Crime Commissioner are registered businesses – we are public authorities.
To be absolutely clear we do not receive any money from speeding fines, court issued fines, and/or any other vehicle related offences. (whether these relate to tyres, out of date MOT, no insurance etc)
Any fines issued for any motoring offences are not paid to either the PCC or Cleveland Police.
We do receive some money, as I mentioned previously, for the costs associated with speed awareness courses – so that we can offer the opportunity to educate those people who are caught breaking the law on how they can improve their driving skills/habits to prevent them from re-offending and improve road safety.
Our CFO has also provided a document which shows all income received in the 2022-23 financial year.
