The Heroin Assisted Treatment pilot is currently taking place in Middlesbrough. There is a Home Office approved supervised injecting facility where medical grade heroin is administered. This facility is located within an existing drug treatment centre in the town. This is also where the participants receive the wrap-around support for other issues such as mental health, housing and finance problems.
Please disclose how much money has been spent on purchasing heroin by the force.
I would like to clarify that Cleveland Police do not fund the Heroin Assisted Treatment scheme. The scheme is funded by a partnership made up of the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Foundations Medical Practice, South Tees Public Health, Durham Tees Valley Community Rehabilitation Company and Tees and Wear Prisons Group.
Since the scheme launched in October 2019, expenditure for pharmacy and medication costs as at January 2020 comes to £11,286.
Please disclose how many people have used these recources.
I have taken your definition of ‘resources’ to refer to the medication you mentioned in your previous question. Between October 2019 to January 2020, nine people have been prescribed medical grade diamorphine as part of the scheme.
Of those who have used the resources, how many crimes have they committed in total since the scheme started.
Between October 2019 and January 2020, one participant was charged and convicted of three criminal offences, resulting in a custodial sentence. This individual is no longer participating in programme.
