Organisations can now bid for additional funding to empower the community’s voice in two specific wards in Stockton and Middlesbrough.
The Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence – or CURV – is providing Catalyst Stockton and Middlesbrough Voluntary Development Agency (MVDA) with £15,000 each to set up a small grants fund for the purpose of building community resilience as well as improve the perception, and fear of violent crime.
The target areas for this work include the Ropner Ward of Stockton and the Newport Ward of Middlesbrough.
Suggestions on how RISE grant funds could be used include (but not exhaustive):
- Increased provision for children and young people. This could include practical projects such as clearing/ cleaning green spaces for children to play, or educational/ awareness initiatives presenting risks of drugs and engagement in violent crime.
- Focus on promoting healthier lifestyles for all.
- Intergenerational community engagement – bringing residents together to create a stronger sense of community and safety.
Applicants will be expected to explain how their project will help to reduce the impact of violent crime in these communities and enhance the feeling of safety for residents.
Catalyst and MVDA will manage the funding on behalf of CURV’s RISE programme. Each agency will be given a management fee of 15% of the total grant. This adds a further £4,500 to the funding.
A total of £34,500 for the financial year 2024/25 has been approved and divided equally between Catalyst and MVDA.
Fantastic Opportunity
Police and Crime Commissioner Matt Storey said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for organisations to bid for a contract that will work directly with the people in the Newport and Ropner wards.
“It is a small piece of the huge amount of work CURV is delivering Cleveland-wide to reduce serious violence and build community reliance and cohesion.”
MVDA applications will be open until noon on Friday, 13 December, 2024.
All successful applicants will be informed before close of play on Friday 20 December 2024.
Catalyst applications will be open until 23:59 on Friday 20 December.
