The search has begun for a talented and dedicated individual to lead and develop Cleveland’s first dedicated unit for reducing levels of violent crime.
Earlier this year, Police and Crime Commissioner Steve Turner announced that Cleveland would receive £3.5m in Home Office funding to establish a new, multiagency team to tackle violence.
The Cleveland Unit for the Reduction of Violence – or CURV – is in early stages of development and needs someone at the helm to lead future changes.
The Head of CURV will be at the forefront of building and driving forward a multi-agency approach to prevent, reduce and tackle the key drivers of serious violence across Cleveland.
PCC Steve Turner said: “When we received the vital funding needed to establish Cleveland’s first violence reduction unit, we knew it was just the start of the journey.
“Now we’re seeking an inspiring, innovative and engaging leader with a passion for making communities safer, who will work closely with the public, voluntary, private, and academic sectors to make positive changes.
“We know reducing violent crime is not the responsibility of the police alone – we need cross-sector, whole-system change to reduce cycles of violent behaviour at their root cause. The Head of CURV will help put this plan into action.”
The Cleveland area has some of the highest levels of violent crime in the country, with similarly high levels of knife crime.
CURV will commission a range of services and initiatives that will seek to address the root causes of violent crime, from childhood trauma to substance misuse.
In addition to the Head of CURV role, applications are sought for an Analytical and Insights Officer to understand data and information around violent crime – and how it might be used innovatively to prevent it.
