National Ugly Mugs (NUM) is a national organisation which provides greater access to justice and protection for sex workers.
Sex workers are often targeted by dangerous individuals and are frequently reluctant to report these incidents to the police.
Offenders are often serial sexual predators who pose a huge risk to the public as a whole.

The funding contribution provided by the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Cleveland enables NUM to, engage in partnership with local support services to ensure vulnerable men and women on the streets are kept safe. In addition to this, it also enables contact with people who utilise online methods of communication.
In Cleveland, specialist service providers proactively raise awareness and promote the use of NUM and sex workers are encouraged to make use of the system should they be a victim of any violent incidents. The sharing of this information is vital in terms of individual’s safety and the wider intelligence picture that can be generated. The PCC has contributed to the NUM Scheme for a number of years in support of the Police and Crime Plan priorities, A Better Deal for Victims and Working Together to Make Cleveland Safer.
