There is significant reliance by the force and courts on evidence obtained from CCTV systems.
Evidence helps to identify and prosecute offenders of all levels of crime. Often crimes could not be prosecuted without the support of CCTV evidence.
The equipment currently used by the force to process and copy material is now in excess of nine years old.
It is in urgent need of replacement due to its frequent malfunction and need for ongoing repairs.
This proposal is to buy replacement, up-to-date, digital CCTV and processing equipment, which will be compliant with information security protocols.
The scheme was due to be part of the 2015/16 Capital Programme. However, it is recommended that the scheme is brought forward to financial year 2014/15. The scheme will cost £36K.
The Technical Support Unit has informed that the scheme can be delivered in the current financial year.
