The current salary is £71,400. This salary is set by the Home Office.
The Election
Who is the lead authority for PCC Elections?
Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council acts as the lead authority for PCC elections in Cleveland. It undertakes candidate nominations and co-ordinates election results.
The OPCC is not responsible for the overall conduct and arrangement of the PCC election.
This is the responsibility of the Police Area Returning Officer (PARO), as set out in legislation and Electoral Commission guidance.
The PARO for the 2024 PCC Election is Mike Greene, Chief Executive of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
PCC elections take place every four years. In the Cleveland force area. Elections elections take place in the following areas:
- Hartlepool Borough Council
- Middlesbrough Council
- Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council
- Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council

First past the post system
Police and Crime Commissioners will be elected using the first-past-the-post voting system.
That means the electorate vote for a single candidate and the candidate with the most votes wins the election.
