Some crimes are most associated with specific communities in Cleveland.
Honour-based violence, forced marriages and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) are usually associated with the area’s Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority (BAME) communities.
The Halo Project, which is based in Middlesbrough, supports victims of illegal cultural harm.
The charity provides advice and support to victims. It also works with key partners to secure the safety and protection of victims.
It aims to educate the community on issues around forced marriage and works closely with Cleveland Police
As a result, Halo makes and maintains links with agencies, providing services to victims.
In addition, the Halo Project provides emotional and practical support to victims, who have been through, or may go through, forced marriage.
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland currently funds a BME support worker at Halo.
